War and Peace:Gaza-London

Theatre for Everybody (Gaza) and Az Theatre (London) are creating and producing a new Arabic version of Tolstoy’s War and Peace in Gaza.

In London we are collaborating on the development of the production through a series of public live video link-ups with Gaza. Eventually, we plan to show a live performance of this production from Gaza via ‘livestream’.

The second live video link up will take place after a reading of a stage adaptation of RESURRECTION, Tolstoy's last novel on Sunday 18th January 2015 at 3pm www.richmix.org.uk

On Sunday 14th September we had our first video link up.  This hapened after we presented a reading of extract's from Erwin Piscator's srage adaptation of War and Peace plus readings of messages from Gaza during the 2014 war. These are posted on our blog

In addition we invited writers, Hassan Abdulrazzak, Caryl Churchill, Ahmed Masoud and Haifa Zangana, to write contemporary responses to Tolstoy’s War and Peace.  These and the scenes from War and Peace were read by a company of celebrated actors including David Calder, Jennie Stoller and Harriet Walter.

Also there was visual art and music from Arts Canteen. www.artscanteen.com

“The epic framework of Tolstoy’s great romantic philosophical novel can open up contemporary and historic events and shed new light on the nature of conflict, individual destiny and what peace can be.  Of course things have changed since Napoleon’s invasion of Russia in 1812! But what exactly is different?”
